Fantastic Friday!

We began the day having French with Mlle. Jessica.

We then went to go watch a presentation about Littering and its effect on the environment put on by the MYP students. We learned that littering is very bad for the environment and that we can be good citizens by throwing away any litter in the proper container (garbage, recycling, compost) and picking up any litter that we see.

Next we had physical education.

When we returned, we wrote our lesson 23 spelling test.

After first recess and lunch we had Music.

We then moved onto math. We continued to practice two-digit subtraction using a place value met.

After second recess and lunch we shared our caring messages to our chosen friend from yesterday.

We then continued reading chapter 2 of The Borrowers. Next we finished sharing what we did over the March break.

What a great week! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!

Thursday March 30, 2017

Tremendous Thursday!

We began the day having French with Mlle. Jessica.

After we worked in partners during math. We gave each other two-digit word problems and solved them using a place value mat.

We then had physical education.

Next we went over to Ms. Baimas’ class and we read Circle of Friends. Since this book did not have any words, we worked together to read the pictures to figure out what was happening in the story. In the story, animals and people were working together to be kind and caring. The boy at the beginning of the story chose to be kind to a man that he saw sleeping on a bench; the boy gave him the muffin that he was eating. At the end of the story, his kind act came back to him in the form of a beautiful sunflower. The bird in the story planted a seed for the boy in front of his window and a sunflower grew from that seed.
When a young boy anonymously shares his snack with a homeless man, he begins a cycle of good will. A touching story that demonstrates the powerful effect that a simple gesture can have. Without a single written word, it effectively speaks of helping, sharing, and caring.”
We discussed what we learned from this story and how it related back to the learner profile of the month: ‘Caring’: when you do something kind for someone else, that same kindness will come back to you when you least expect it.
We then did an activity to show how as a whole of grade 2, we are kind and caring. We each picked a random name from the whole of grade 2, and we wrote down something kind about that person. At the end of the day, we shared our kind message with our chosen friend. I have posted the messages written by my class. I will post the ones made by Ms. Baimas’ class tomorrow.

Following first recess and lunch, we continued our ‘Caring’ activity. We then worked on our Then and Now activities showing how transportation has changed and why.

After second recess and lunch, we continued reading chapter 1 of The Borrowers and began chapter 2. While reading, we made a cover for the book based on the information that we have so far.
